Background A home exercise program (HEP) is integral in the management of rotator cuff related shoulder pain (RCRSP). There are many methods measuring HEP adherence and possible interventions to promote adherence. Understanding rates strategies used important order interpret existing evidence for use RCRSP.Objectives To report synthesize understand limitations current base make recommendations clinical practice future research investigating HEPs RCRSP.Methods An electronic search EMBASE, MEDLINE, PubMed, CINAHL, AMED, CENTRAL was undertaken. Methodological quality assessed using Cochrane RoB 2.0, BC techniques were coded accordance with technique taxonomy (version 1).Results Seventeen RCTs retrieved. Forty-seven percent described a formal method 29% rates. The included studies between three seventeen mean number per study 5.8. Twelve offering patients an explanation how might help their symptoms resolve.Conclusions Poor reporting underutilisation prevalent. Recommendations clinicians researchers include more widespread definitive adherence, objective, patient self-reported, clinician-assessed measures when prescribing HEPs.
